In Sacramento, nearly 200 women who work in the business of politics and government gather to celebrate our bipartisan success.
Why?
Because women throughout the state are doing – and have been doing –amazing work in politics and government and all of us should recognize and celebrate that.
We aren’t always the ones jumping head first into the spotlight, and that’s too bad. Turn to any campaign in the state and you will see powerful women working key races. Look behind just about any key policy or legislative initiative at the Capitol and you’ll find women driving it.
We were there – in key local, Senate, Assembly, and Congressional campaigns.
We were there – on both sides of Propositions 45 and 46.
We are there – everyday lobbying in the capitol, enacting policy and directing statewide political action committees.
We are there – and we are redefining what it means to “win like a girl.”
Have you heard “hire a woman because you can pay her less and she works twice as hard?”
Well, we have – but winning “like a girl” doesn’t mean less money and more work. Not anymore, at least.
Too many times in our business, women don’t receive the public credit for the work they do – and that’s due to a number of reasons which can be debated until the cows come home.
From running Party organizations, to directing media strategy, fundraising, running IE committees, directing field operations, passing legislation, guiding policy and leading advocacy orgs, women do it all and do it well.
Pioneering women have been leading the way in this business and are prepared to serve and to encourage a younger generation of smart and effective women leaders and strategists. The door is wide open: come on in.
To #WinLikeAGirl means a strategic mind, a bankable game plan, attention to detail, and ethics. Oh and yes – hard work like always.
